South Park rape causes offence

A scene in South Park in which Steven Spielberg and George Lucas rape Harrison Ford has caused controversy among Jews in America.

Ford in an Indiana Jones costume was sexually assaulted by Jewish director Spielberg and Lucas in the episode which was shown on US TV last week.

It's airing on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur caused offence among members of the Jewish community.

Myrna Shinbaum of America's Anti-Defamation League is angry about the South Park rape scene.

She told the New York Daily News: "South Park has been offensive and has had very anti-Jewish pieces before. We understand it tries to satirise but it may get lost on people who are haters."

A spokesman for makers Comedy Central, said: "People know what they are getting into when they watch the show."

This is not the first time that South Park has courted controversy.

It offended Catholics in 2005 with an episode featuring a bleeding statue of the Virgin Mary and Tom Cruise was reportedly not happy about another show which mocked his belief in Scientology.

There was also outrage a month after Steve Irwin's death when he featured in the show attending Satan's Halloween party with a stingray on his chest.
