Top seed Fernando Verdasco coasted into the semi-finals at the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven after a straight-sets win over Mischa Zverev 6-2 7-6 (7-4).
The Spaniard, a quarter-finalist in 2005 and 2007, converted four of seven break points on his way to his fifth straight win over a German.
In the day's big upset, Luka Gregorc came from a set down to beat seventh seed Andreas Seppi 4-6 6-4 7-5

Chakvetadze marches onTop seed Anna Chakvetadze moved into the semi-finals of the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven with a straight-sets win over Romanian Sorana Cirstea.
The 21-year-old needed an hour and 27 minutes to close the match against her unseeded opponent 6-3 6-3.
In the clash of the seeds, Alize Cornet of France, the seventh seed, came from a set down to defeat the second seed, Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.

Shocks in first roundThere were major shocks in the first round of the Forest Hills Classic as the two top seeds both went out.
Top seed Pauline Parmentier of France was comfortably beaten in straight sets by Peng Shuai of China 6-3 6-2.
Then it was the turn of second seed Marina Erakovic of New Zealand to taste defeat as she lost a tense tie-breaker in the first to American Jamea Jackson before losing the second set 7-5.
