ATHLETICS: Winners shock in Chicago
Evans Cheruiyot and Lidiya Grigoryeva upset the form book as they triumphed in the Chicago Marathon.
Cheruiyot, in only his second appearance over the distance, shaved three minutes off his personal best to win in a time of 2hrs 6mins 25secs.
Grigoryeva bided her time in the very hot conditions before powering ahead just after 30km to defeat fellow Russian Alvetina Biktimirova.
Tadese retains title
Zersenay Tadese put in a dominant run to defend his IAAF World Half-Marathon Championship crown in Rio de Janeiro.
The Eritrean opened up a 30-second lead after 10km before stretching away to cruise to victory ahead of Kenya's Patrick Makau Musyoki in a sub-one hour time of 59min 56sec.
Tadese said: "This was a race I was determined to win and I did prepare specifically for it."
Kiplagat: Pace was key
Holland's Lornah Kiplagat felt her early speed was the key to her victory in the women's IAAF World Half-Marathon Championship race in Rio de Janeiro.
Kiplagat forced a fast pace through the opening 5km uphill stretch and then accelerated 2km later to leave the rest of the field trailing in her wake.
She said: "I just wanted to get away and not place myself under any pressure, as happened last year."
