CYCLING: Tour starts in Rotterdam

The organisers of the Tour de France have announced that the 2010 race will begin from the Dutch city of Rotterdam.

Utrecht and Rotterdam, both in Holland, lodged bids to host the start of the Tour, with the latter chosen due to its size and location on the planned route.

An Amaury Sport Organisation statement read: "Its geographical situation adheres perfectly to the route we have imagined for the 2010 Tour."

Two golds for Britain

Britain's women continued their good form with two gold medals in the second round of the UCI World Track Cup.

Londoner Joanna Rowsell won the women's pursuit in Melbourne while Lizzie Armitstead, from Otley, took gold in the women's scratch.

Rowsell, with a time of 3min 41.183sec, finished more than a second ahead of Australian Josephine Omic and now leads the women's pursuit competition.
