SNOOKER: Hendry scrapes through

Stephen Hendry edged a nine-frame scrap with David Gilbert to reach the last 16 of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix.

Gilbert fought back from 2-0 and 4-3 down to force a decider - and missed a chance of a 147 - as Hendry progressed thanks to breaks of 69, 70 and 98.

He admitted: "I'm relieved to get my first win of the season. I've had a slow start and, when you're not getting wins, panic starts to set in a bit."

Fu rallies for victory

Defending champion Marco Fu was forced to produce a battling comeback to secure his place in the last 16 of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix.

The world No 14 trailed Jimmy Michie 2-0 in their first-round clash but won five frames on the spin to win 5-2.

Fu said: "I didn't feel comfortable in the first few frames and Jimmy punished me. But after the interval I scored a lot better amongst the balls."
