BOXING: Pacquiao: I can beat Oscar

Manny Pacquiao is confident he can overcome the size difference to beat Oscar De La Hoya this weekend.

While Da La Hoya has campaigned at middleweight and light-middleweight, Pacquiao is stepping up to the 147- pound welterweight division having began his career at 106.

But the Filipino star insisted: "Oscar is a great fighter. But I believe my speed and power can beat him."

Oscar dismisses advantage

Oscar De La Hoya insists his size advantage will count for nothing when he faces Manny Pacquiao on Saturday.

De La Hoya has a significant weight, height and reach advantage heading into the clash, and many think Pacquiao will not be able to cope with his power.

But 'The Golden Boy' said: "If you think that, you tend not to train, you tend to be over-confident. I trained for King Kong."

Alvarez to battle Big Mac

Hard-hitting Puerto Rican Francisco Alvarez has been confirmed as Enzo Maccarinelli's opponent on Saturday.

Alvarez, who has an 11-1 record with nine wins by KO, has replaced injured Johnathon Banks for the bout to crown a new WBO cruiserweight champion.

Maccarinelli is looking to win back the title he lost to David Haye, who vacated the belt after stepping up to the heavyweight division.

McCracken - Froch's time

Trainer Robert McCracken insists there can only be one winner when his charge Carl Froch faces Jean Pascal.

Froch and Pascal collide in the "Cobra's" hometown of Nottingham on Saturday night for the vacant WBC super-middleweight crown.

McCracken told the Nottingham Evening Post: "Pascal is an excellent prospect. But Carl is on the verge of something special. This is his time."

Arevalo slams old trainers

Cornerman Jesus Arevalo has criticised Amir Khan's old trainers for allowing him to fight like an amateur.

Khan faces Oisin Fagan this weekend in his first fight since the devastating defeat by Breidis Prescott.

And Arevalo told the Bolton News: "I am surprised nobody has converted it into a professional style as that is what he needed in his last fight when he played right into his opponent's hands."

Chisora after KO triumph

Derek Chisora wants an early finish to his clash with Matthew Ellis at the ExCel London on Saturday night.

Chisora, 24, felt by some to be the British heavyweight division's brightest prospect, is unbeaten in seven fights, and is looking for a British title bout within 18 months.

He said: "I'll be looking to take him out early. I love entertaining people, and I can feel another KO coming on."
