ATHLETICS: Rutherford's fresh start
European long jump silver medallist Greg Rutherford has vowed to bounce back at next year's World Championships in Berlin after a miserable 2008.
He admits he was deeply disappointed by last summer's Olympics, at which illness cost him a medal when he felt he was on target for a podium finish.
The Milton Keynes ace said: "After all the highs and lows from Beijing, I am just really looking forward to 2009."
Liu set for surgery
Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang has travelled to the US to undergo surgery on an Achilles injury which cut short his participation at this year's Olympics.
The 25-year-old was unable to defend his crown in Beijing when he hobbled off the track during the heats.
And in a bid to give him the best chance of representing his country in London 2012 Liu will be operated on by Houston Rockets doctor Tom Clanton.
