England v South Africa

Kevin Pietersen enjoyed a successful first day as England skipper as the tourists were bowled out for 194.

James Anderson took 3-42 and there were two wickets each for Steve Harmison, Monty Panesar and Stuart Broad, as Graeme Smith top-scored with 46.

England reached 49-1 by the close of play as Alastair Cook and Ian Bell rebuilt well after the early loss of Andrew Strauss for six.

Harmy's festive feeling

Steve Harmison revealed Wednesday night was "like Christmas Eve" as he pondered his recall against South Africa.

With the series lost, new England captain Kevin Pietersen recalled the Durham pace bowler for the final Test and Harmison responded with two wickets to inspire a Proteas collapse to 194.

The 29-year-old said: "I was excited. God only knows how Kev felt going into his first game as England captain."

Amla: We still want win

Batsman Hashim Amla insists South Africa are still desperate to win the final Test despite having already won the series with England.

South Africa were bowled out for just 194 in the first innings - their lowest score of the four-match series.

But Amla said: "Hopefully in the second innings we can recover. The series is won but we're playing for our country - a lot of pride goes into that."
