Sven takes Mexico post

Former Manchester City and England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has been appointed the new coach of Mexico.

The owners of the 18 top-flight league teams unanimously approved the 60-year-old Swede as the successor to Hugo Sanchez, who was sacked in March.

Eriksson said: "I want to thank the Mexican Football Federation for their confidence and support. Our goal is to qualify for the 2010 World Cup."
