Salary cap talks planned
The Football League have confirmed a proposed salary cap will be discussed in depth with Championship clubs.
Derby chairman Adam Pearson has called for the cap and warned the game is "close to meltdown at all levels".
The clubs are due to meet at Pride Park on December 18 and a League spokesman said: "Given the prevailing economic climate, this is an issue that will be discussed with clubs once again."
Shaw: Cap doesn't fit
Preston chairman Derek Shaw is not convinced a salary cap is the solution to the financial problems facing many Football League clubs.
Shaw admitted Preston's wage bill has increased by £1m per year "for the past four or five years".
But he said: "A salary cap would be very difficult to control. There are lots of ways round it so players can still increase their earning power."
Robins against regulation
Bristol City chief executive Colin Sexstone claims a Football League salary cap would widen the gulf between the Championship and the top flight.
Sexstone revealed he is in favour of bringing players' wages down.
But he told the Bristol Evening Post: "We are against any kind of outside regulation. The market should dictate any such cut rather than accountants working for the FA or Football League."
