Wolves 2 Crystal Palace 1
Wolves stayed top of the Championship after their fifth victory in a row.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake gave Wolves a dream start, tucking away David Jones's knockdown (1), but Kieran Djilali capitalised on Neill Collins's mishap, crossing for Paul Ifill to finish (32).
Andy Keogh pounced to nod in the winner after Ebanks-Blake's shot was saved (58), while Michael Kightly fired just wide after a mazy 50-yard run.
Bristol C 1 Birmingham 2
Birmingham were made to work for their win after dominating the first half.
They took the lead when Sebastian Larsson's free-kick caused havoc and Louis Carey put into his own goal (8), then David Murphy provided for Cameron Jerome to slot home the second (24).
Blues keeper Maik Taylor saved well from Ivan Sproule but was caught out by Lee Trundle's long-range shot (79), although the hosts could not level.
Swansea 1 Derby 1
Ashley Williams's header prevented Derby from winning back-to-back games having previously gone almost a year without a league victory.
Paul Jewell's side took the lead when Stephen Pearson latched onto a fine pass from Nathan Ellington to slot past Dorus De Vries (63).
But Wales defender Williams equalised from close range after a purposeful run and cross from Jordi Gomez (76).
Preston 2 Nottm Forest 1
Preston continued their fine start to the season with a dominant win.
Youl Mawene headed in Darren Carter's corner to hand Preston the lead (50) and Neil Mellor, who earlier twice went close, dived to head in a second (59).
Jon Parkin also had two good chances but Mawene then headed Lee Martin's cross into his own goal (67), and Robert Earnshaw twice blazed over as Forest fell to a fourth straight loss.
Watford 1 Plymouth 2
Plymouth secured their first win against a Watford side lacking an edge.
Karl Duguid fired Plymouth ahead from 20 yards (30) before home captain Jay DeMerit handled in the area and Luke Summerfield sent Mart Poom the wrong way from the penalty spot (72).
Paul Gallagher almost made it three when he headed against the crossbar, but John-Joe O'Toole deflected in to set up an interesting finish (83).
Reading 6 Sheff Wed 0
A hat-trick from Kevin Doyle saw Reading overwhelm Sheffield Wednesday.
The Republic of Ireland striker tapped in Noel Hunt's cross (5) before smashing home a second (9), defender Andre Bikey adding the third when he headed in Stephen Hunt's centre (30).
Noel Hunt (50) curled home from the edge of the area, Doyle's cool finish brought up his treble (62) and Hunt (64) grabbed his second.
Doncaster 0 Charlton 1
Charlton bounced back from defeats by Preston and Wolves and withstood severe Rovers pressure to claim victory.
Andy Gray scored the goal (3), meeting Jonathan Fortune's hopeful free-kick with a seemingly innocuous header which looped over goalkeeper Neil Sullivan.
Luke Varney went close to a second, but James Hayter saw a header inadvertently blocked by Rovers team-mate Lewis Guy and Gareth Taylor missed a good chance.
Burnley 2 Blackpool 0
Martin Paterson's brilliant individual strike and Graham Alexander's third goal in two games gave Burnley a deserved win in the Lancashire derby.
Paterson cut in from the right to curl home a fine 20-yard strike (60) and Alexander struck from the spot after Ian Evatt fouled Steven Caldwell (76).
Chris McCann's fierce free-kick earlier tested Paul Rachubka, while Blackpool struggled to create a clear chance.
Sheff Utd 1 Coventry 1
Elliott Ward's penalty miss proved vital as 10-man Sheffield United came from a goal down to claim a point.
Jay Tabb drilled in Freddy Eastwood's pass (30) for Coventry before Ward put his spot-kick wide after Sun Jihai had fouled Michael Mifsud (48).
The Chinese international then saw red (51) for a lunge on Mifsud before Billy Sharp tapped in David Cotterill's cross to earn a share of the spoils (56).
Barnsley 0 Cardiff 1
Peter Whittingham's goal gave Cardiff a deserved victory - and a repeat of last season's FA Cup semi-final triumph.
The winger, who had gone close with a similar early effort, curled a fine 14th-minute shot into the top corner from Paul Parry's cross.
Roger Johnson headed against the post and Parry was superbly denied by keeper Luke Steele, while Kayode Odejayi's header shaved the post for the Tykes.
