Ferdinand keeps grounded

Defender Rio Ferdinand was pleased with England's performance after their win over Belarus in Minsk - but insisted the job was still far from done.

A brace from Wayne Rooney and a superb strike from Steven Gerrard saw England maintain their 100% qualifying record.

Ferdinand told Setanta Sports: "It's good but still there is much to improve. It doesn't make us qualify - it puts us in a good position."

Gerrard pleased with goal

Steven Gerrard admitted he was happy to put all the debate about his role with England behind him after starring in the 3-1 win over Belarus in Minsk.

The Liverpool midfielder set England on their way to victory with a long-range effort after 11 minutes.

He told Setanta Sports: "Playing for England, you always have a point to prove. You are fighting for the shirt and it's always nice to score and win."
