Kanu pens Pompey deal

Striker Kanu has signed a new one-year deal with FA Cup winners Portsmouth.

The 32-year-old Nigerian had been linked with a move away from Fratton Park but has agreed a new deal which will trigger the offer of another year if he plays a set number of games.

Kanu, who scored the winner against Cardiff at Wembley in May, told the club website: "I love it here and I want to be part of the team."

Diarra scare for Pompey

Lassana Diarra has given Portsmouth a scare after hobbling off injured in a pre-season friendly at Oxford.

Goals by Papa Bouba Diop and Jermain Defoe gave Pompey a 2-1 victory, but an ankle injury has thrown a cloud over their preparations for the Community Shield match against Manchester United.

It was the Frenchman's first pre-season outing, having been given extra time off by his club following Euro 2008.
