Villa in determined mood

Martin O'Neill is demanding Aston Villa do their proud European tradition justice this season.

A Uefa Cup second qualifying round tie against Hafnarfjardar offers the 1982 European Cup winners a superb chance to progress towards the main draw.

O'Neill said: "The fans have an appetite for European football and I am sure they will back us. We are determined to do as well as possible."

Danish tester for City

Manchester City have been paired with Danish club FC Midtjylland in the Uefa Cup's second qualifying round.

City's Premier League rivals Aston Villa take on former Icelandic champions Hafnarfjordur.

Queen of the South were rewarded for their Scottish Cup run with a meeting with FC Nordsjaelland - another Danish team - and Irish outfit St Patrick's Athletic face Elfsborg of Sweden.
