Hammers slam Curbishley

West Ham vice-chairman Asgeir Fridgeirsson rejects Alan Curbishley's belief that the club's transfer policy was a "breach of trust and confidence".

Curbishley stepped down as manager on Wednesday claiming recent transfer decisions had been made without him.

But Fridgeirsson told the BBC: "We agreed a budget at an April board meeting. Alan went to that meeting and was a dominant voice."

Pearce staying with U21s

England U21 boss Stuart Pearce has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant manager's job at West Ham after Alan Curbishley's resignation.

The former Hammers defender was among the favourites to succeed Curbishley, but he maintains he will not walk away form his international job.

Pearce said: "I manage this team. I am very proud to do so and will not be stepping down from this job."

Harry won't go to Hammers

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has insisted there is "no way" he would return to the West Ham hotseat as Alan Curbishley's successor.

Curbishley resigned as manager of the Hammers on Wednesday after revealing he did not have control over transfers.

Redknapp told the Sun: "There's no way I'll replace him. I love it at Portsmouth and I've got an owner who lets the manager manage."

McCartney: No request

George McCartney believes he has been made a scapegoat following Alan Curbishley's exit as West Ham manager.

West Ham defended their transfer policy after Curbishley's resignation and claimed McCartney handed in a transfer request before joining Sunderland.

But the defender said: "I never did anything of the sort. Probably the board at West Ham are trying to cover their tracks. I was happy to stay."
