Adebayor pens new deal

Emmanuel Adebayor has ended speculation about his future by signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

Both AC Milan and Barcelona showed a strong interest in the Togo striker, who announced he was keen to stay in London before the start of the season.

A club statement read: "Emmanuel Adebayor has signed a new long-term deal with the club. Everyone is looking forward to his continued contribution."

Gallas happy to learn

Arsenal captain William Gallas insists he has learned from the experience of last season and is confident leading the Gunners in their new title quest.

The 31-year-old first became club captain after Thierry Henry left for Barcelona in the summer of 2007.

He said: "I'm very pleased to carry on. I'm still learning, I know a lot more about the job thanks to last season. I really enjoyed the responsibility."
