All of us fans have seen the best of all the heavyweights, but we never saw the best of the greatest Ali at 26.

In his peak he was too young for Liston and too old for Foreman - a huge, huge underdog for them. How good would Ali have been in his peak? Tyson was great, but Ali is the greatest ever - a complete fighting machine. Jav, Sheffield

Daley getting to the Olympics was good, but he blew it for his partner so can't be named Junior Sports Personality of the Year. Hoy or Romero for the senior award as they had to change and still won. Ross, EH21

Re: AH, Bristol. Get your facts right, Norton and Frazier beat Ali under present boxing rules. Our own Henry Cooper would have beaten Ali by a knockout - check it out. John, Aughton

Re: J, Broxburn. There are a lot of people that hate Fernando Alonso, but he has comfortably proved himself twice - and didn't have to wait until a Toyota 'struggled' around the last corner of the last race.

He's right about the single engine formula as F1 shouldn't be about everyone using the same engine. If the Renault is as good as it was in Brazil, then Alonso for 2009 champion. Grant, Buckie

The young Mike Tyson was the scariest fighter I've seen in 50 years - even including Liston and Foreman. In the few brief years before he succumbed to the good life, I think he could have beaten any champion in history. But Ali was the best. Alan, Grays

Now that the England cricket team have indicated they are going to fly back to India, maybe Khan will apologise for calling them "cowards". Gary, Rochdale

Re: Tim, Lytham St Annes. Boxing is one of the purest and oldest sports. It takes tremendous speed, skill, determination and application.

Boxers are athletes like any other and a great deal of people enjoy this sport. If you don't like it, don't talk about it. Ben, Wirral

Re: Dave. Wigan isn't Saints' biggest game any more. You are way behind Leeds as our fiercest rival. They give us tough games, whereas we usually give Wigan a hiding. Lee, Lancashire

Re: Tom. Mike Tyson never, ever won a hard fight. Buster Douglas knocked him out. So what do you think a Foreman or a Shavers would have done to him? And Ali would have played with him. Andy, Letchworth

Phil Bailey, the Australian Wigan Warriors player, says his team have a great chance of progressing to the 2009 Grand Final. Even the new qualifying system will not help Wigan. They have as much chance as Wigan Athletic have of qualifying for the 2009-10 Champions League final. Ken, Oldham
