Johnno to back stars

England team manager Martin Johnson has vowed to keep faith with the players who were involved in the 42-6 hammering by South Africa on Saturday.

The Springboks condemned England to their heaviest defeat at Twickenham as they ran in five tries.

Johnson said: "I am backing these guys. Yes, they all made mistakes at times but they all did some good things too. This is another step for us."

Cipriani feels the pain

England fly-half Danny Cipriani admits he is feeling the pain of the heavy defeat at the hands of South Africa.

The Wasps star turned in a poor display as Martin Johnson's side conceded five tries in their heaviest home defeat of 42 points to six.

Cipriani said: "It hurts because we are playing for England in front of our home crowd. It hurts when you do not do your country proud."

Rees wants togetherness

Flanker Tom Rees admits England will be beaten before they start if they feel sorry for themselves ahead of next weekend's clash with New Zealand.

Martin Johnson's men were crushed 42-6 by South Africa at Twickenham a week after succumbing to Australia, and must now face the All Blacks.

Rees said: "As a team we have to stick together now. The challenge is for us to pick ourselves up."

NZ wary of backlash

New Zealand are ready for a possible England backlash next Saturday, after Martin Johnson's men suffered a 42-6 hammering against South Africa.

The tourists are one win away from completing a successful grand slam trip following victories over Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Hooker Keven Mealamu said: "We will have our hands full. We have got to be ready for another physical match."

Pienaar: Wilko a loss

South Africa fly-half Ruan Pienaar believes England are missing Jonny Wilkinson's influence at fly-half.

Wilkinson started the Guinness Premiership season in prime form and was favourite to reclaim the England No 10 jersey for the autumn Tests, before suffering a dislocated knee.

Pienaar said: "Jonny Wilkinson has been a top fly-half since he was 18. He might make a huge difference."
