Airline 'put surgery at risk'

A world-first operation was nearly ruined when airline staff refused to allow a Bristol University professor on to a plane, it has been claimed.

Prof Martin Birchall said he could not board the easyjet plane because cells grown for a windpipe transplant did not have security clearance.

The cells, carried in liquid, had to be transported by a private jet instead.
