Mother saves schools £192,000
A woman has saved rural Borders schools almost £200,000 after it was discovered they are exempt from paying rates.
Laura Robertson, from West Linton, 10 miles south of Edinburgh, questioned why schools have to pay rates.
She noted it was strange that one council department charges another, and as as result, a total of £192,000 was recouped from Scottish Borders Council.
