Plea over airport rail scheme

Council leaders are urging Network Rail to ensure a planned upgrade to Gatwick Airport train services will be carried out in time for the 2012 Olympics.

West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council said the train station at Gatwick will be a major gateway into the UK for competitors and visitors.

They added that the airport's train station is vital to the local economy.
