Award for city charity

Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Service has been awarded the Freedom of the City in celebration of its centenary year.

The organisation represents hundreds of charities and voluntary sector workers in Liverpool.

It received the honour in a ceremony at St George's Hall headed by Lord Mayor Mike Storey.

My local hospitals are filthy. There are enough cleaners but they walk off, chat, stop for drinks, have the wrong tools and do not have one standard - each ward expects different standards. I would also love to see a spot check on the staff's hands. Colin, Willenhall
