A-Z to Ascot handicap
Albaqaa: Finally got the win his consistency deserved at Chester, but this longer trip on slower ground is an unknown. Rating (out of 10): 6
Allied Powers: Made mincemeat of his rivals at Ayr last time and with the trip and potential soft ground in his favour, he has to be considered. 9
Always Bold: Seems at his best over further so will need this to be a real war of attrition to figure. 5
Buddhist Monk: Has been plying his trade at a lower level but he has shaped like a typical Prescott improver of late. Could sneak into a place. 7
Candle: Has only won once in 14 turf starts and though capable, she is hardly one to rely on implicitly. 4
Cool Judgement: Failed to make an impact at Doncaster last time, leaving the distinct impression he is in the grip of the handicapper. 5
Crete: Chased home Fiulin at Yarmouth and with the winner having gone on to be placed in a Listed race, he could be a live threat off his new mark. 8
Dansili Dancer: Has been put firmly in his place in a number of these contests and others appeal far more. 3
Drill Sergeant: Typical Mark Johnston battler who was only just run out of it over course and distance last time. Likely to be tough to pass. 8
Group Captain: Hurdling career ended in disappointment and his return to the Flat has been inauspicious, to say the least. Unlikely to challenge here. 4
Inventor: Has shown admirable consistency in his short career and looks likely to give another good account, with conditions no problem. 7
Magicalmysterytour: Hammered by the handicapper for his reappearance success but is still on the upgrade. 10
Mull Of Dubai: Not beaten far in three decent handicaps recently but looks vulnerable to a less-exposed type. 5
Night Crescendo: Landed a gamble when holding off Young Mick over course and distance, but unlikely to confirm that, even on just 1lb worse terms. 6
Pevensey: A standing dish in this type of handicap, often running well, but hasn't got his head in front on the Flat since Royal Ascot last year. 4
Samsons Son: Has gone close in a number of 10f handicaps since scoring over 1m4f last year. Step up in trip should suit, but class of opposition won't. 4
Spring Dream: Now 7lb higher than when winning at Nottingham, but has not been disgraced in two starts since and could go well off a feather-weight. 7
Tastahil: Chased Magicalmysterytour home at Doncaster and could get closer to the winner on 5lb better terms. 8
Young Mick: Must be among the front- runners for unluckiest horse in training after numerous near-misses. Likely to go close again, but hard to keep making excuses for him. 8
CONCLUSION: Young Mick's propensity to find trouble in running could find him out again, so preference is for the less-exposed MAGICALMYSTERYTOUR. Willie Musson's gelding won readily on his reappearance at Doncaster and could be up to defying a 9lb handicap rise.
