£2.5m paid over negligence

NHS Dumfries and Galloway has made 75 compensation payments totalling just more than £2.5m for medical negligence since 1996.

The amount was revealed in a Scottish government response to a parliamentary question and equates to an average payment of £34,000 per case.

The highest number of cash settlements made in a single year was 11.
