Tories ditch spending plans

The Tories have ditched a commitment to match Labour spending plans for 2010/11 saying the economic crisis facing the country had made them unsustainable.

Opposition leader David Cameron said voters now face a clear choice between his "honest" approach and "reckless borrowing-funded tax cuts".

Business leaders insisted it was a false choice and called on ministers to cut tax by £20bn and rein in spending.
