Defra accused of incompetence

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs has been accused of "incompetence" after issuing the wrong year's budget figures in a statement.

Defra had come under fire after the written statement appeared to say the department was seeking to increase the budget for its running costs by 38%.

Officials later said the real increase sought was £463,000, and old figures had been put into the statement.
