Deaths as ferry runs aground

A ferry carrying more than 740 people has sank off the coast of the Philippines, killing at least 17.

Rescue ships battled waves and strong winds to reach the MV Princess of Stars which ran aground near Sibuyan island after being hit by Typhoon Fengshen.

The engines on the ferry, which had 626 passengers and 121 crew on board, had failed and radio contact was difficult amid the severe conditions.
