Ofgem warning on tariffs
Energy deals marketed to vulnerable consumers as social tariffs must be the cheapest a supplier can offer under new guidelines from regulator Ofgem.
Social tariffs, deals for customers who spend more than a 10th of their income on energy, should not be more expensive than any other offer, Ofgem said.
The industry regulator said it wanted tighter definition of social tariffs in an effort to "clear away confusion".
