Darling to make tax statement
The Chancellor is to make a statement on the proposed compensation package for people who lost out as a result of the scrapping of the 10p rate of tax.
Alistair Darling's statement will set out his thinking on the compensation package. Full details will be revealed in the Pre-Budget Report in the autumn.
Mr Darling briefed ministers on his plans at an hour-long Cabinet meeting, during a discussion about the economy.
