'£500,000 payoff' at council
A finance chief at England's worst performing council is reportedly set to leave his job with a £500,000 payoff.
Phil Halsall, 50, who earns £180,000 a year on Liverpool Council, will be seconded to a joint venture partner in October before retiring, reports said.
The director of finance will receive an extra five years' enhancement on his pension, worth about £420,000, and an £80,000 lump sum, a newspaper said.
