Smoking 'making children ill'

As many as a third of children treated at a renowned hospital for conditions including asthma are there because their parents smoke.

Dr Steve Ryan, of Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital, said problems such as bronchitis and ear infections are often linked to passive smoking.

He said many illnesses could be reduced if parents quit the habit and that many lie about smoking near their children.
