Police inundated by reports of UFOs in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, found a more down-to-earth explanation for the sightings - party balloons.

Revellers were taking part in a party game which involved attaching candles to the balloons and making a wish as they sent them floating into the sky.

But more than a dozen residents in the surrounding area were concerned they may be witnessing an alien invasion.
