A war between Pakistan and India using nuclear weapons on even a limited scale could create a near-global ozone hole, experts have warned.

A conflict involving 50 Hiroshima-sized devices on each side would lead to a series of chemical reactions that would break down the layer protecting Earth.

This would trigger human health problems and wreak environmental havoc for at least a decade, they said.
