PM fuels state bank rumours
The PM has fuelled rumours that a "state bank" - possibly Northern Rock or the post office - may be used to lend directly to struggling firms.
A reference to "non-bank institutions" in a BBC interview was taken as a hint that it may be under consideration.
He said: "We want to resume the normal functions of banking, sometimes using non-bank institutions to do so as the banks are not able or are unwilling."
