Attorney General role row

Government plans to reform the Attorney General's role have been criticised by MPs for making no real change to the current set-up.

The Commons justice committee said proposals in a draft Bill would not help improve transparency and, in some ways, increase the power of ministers.

Plans were announced last year after a series of cases which brought the Attorney General's role into question.
