Rhys defendant avoids trial
A 17-year-old boy who gave an alibi for the teenager accused of murdering Liverpool schoolboy Rhys Jones has refused to give evidence.
The teenager had claimed Sean Mercer, 18, was with him at home watching a DVD when 11-year-old Rhys was shot dead.
Five of the seven defendants in the trial at Liverpool Crown Court have now declined to offer evidence. Mercer, of Croxteth, denies murder.
