Runway protesters buy land

Land earmarked for a third Heathrow runway has been bought "under the nose" of the Government by green campaigners, celebrities, scientists and MPs.

Greenpeace said the move throws a "huge spanner" into the plans, warning that the site, the size of a football pitch, will become a focus for protesters.

Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson and impressionist Alistair McGowan are among those who bought the land.
