Burma: tsunami-style appeal

Aid agencies in the UK are all set to launch a major appeal on behalf of the victims of the cyclone in Burma.

As the death toll soared past 22,000, the Disasters Emergency Committee has been in talks about an appeal similar to that of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.

Britain has already announced a £5m aid package to be channelled through the UN and charities, plus an emergency field team to be sent to the country.
