Seven people have died in a suicide car bombing at a police checkpoint in Diyala province, north-east of Baghdad, according to Iraqi police.

A police officer and six civilians were killed in the blast, which also injured five other policemen and two civilians.

The checkpoint in Jalula that was targeted is near a military base and an office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan - a Kurdish political party.
