Calais fences to be boosted

British and French ministers have agreed to reinforce fences around the port at Calais, three weeks after a glaring loophole was exposed.

Illegal immigrants have been able to sneak aboard lorries in Calais after supposedly foolproof searches have been carried out, due to inadequate fencing.

But both nations have now confirmed moves to "strengthen the security and quality of border controls at Calais".
