Bookie pays out on Boris win

Tory hopes of crowning triumph in the local elections are rising after one bookmaker said it is paying out on a Boris Johnson win for London mayor.

The result will not be declared for several hours, but Paddy Power said the "mauling" Labour has received suggests the Tory is on his way to City Hall.

But Mr Johnson himself has refused to claim victory, warning that London is "a very different kettle of fish".
