Union leaders and voluntary groups have stepped up their campaign for an extra bank holiday as darker days set in after the end of British Summer Time.

The TUC and the UK's leading voluntary groups marked the halfway point of the longest gap between UK bank holidays by calling for a new statutory day off.

They want a new Community Day in late October to bridge the gap between the August and Christmas bank holidays.
