Birdie thrills Mickelson
Phil Mickelson described his final-hole wedge which won him the Colonial Invitational at Fort Worth, Texas, as one of the best shots of his career.
The left-hander, 37, threaded his second shot at the 18th over one tree and under another to within nine feet of the pin, and birdied to win by one.
He said: "You have to take risks to win and it wasn't an easy shot but it came off. It's one of the memorable ones."
Pampling disillusioned
Rod Pampling was philosophical in defeat after seeing playing partner Phil Mickelson win the Colonial Invitational with a wonder stroke.
Pampling led for most of the final round, but bogeyed the 17th and then saw Mickelson birdie the last after a superb wedge approach from the rough.
He said: "You get to expect him to do that. I was in a great position, and am obviously disheartened (not to win)."
