For me, the best sports game has to be ice hockey. The first game I played was NHL 94 on the Mega Drive.

I didn't know the rules and I'd never heard of any of the teams or players but it was a fast-paced end-to-end battle with two players that I and my friends played for months on end.
Over the years the visuals have obviously improved, but the games remain fast paced and hugely addictive.
