Boyd stands by decision

Kris Boyd has refused to reconsider his decision to quit playing for Scotland while George Burley is manager.

Rangers striker Boyd, 25, is furious at a lack of opportunities under former Ipswich and Hearts boss Burley.

He insists there is no chance of a change of heart over Sunday's decision and told the Scottish Sun: "I'll stand by what I've done. I've taken the decision and that's the way it is."

Fergie has Boyd sympathy

Scotland captain Barry Ferguson claims he understands striker Kris Boyd's frustration at being left on the sidelines under manager George Burley.

Ferguson insists the decision must be respected, even though he wants Rangers team-mate Boyd in the Scotland squad.

He told Sky Sports News: "(Kris) wants to play. I'm disappointed, but he has thought long and hard about it and you have to respect the decision."

Smith regrets Boyd choice

SFA chief Gordon Smith is disappointed with Kris Boyd's decision to opt out of international football.

Boyd has played just 28 minutes of the six matches since George Burley took over as Scotland manager in January.

Smith told BBC Radio 5Live: "I think it's disappointing. He's not been getting a game and it's a bad reaction. He could add value to the squad and you don't like to see people giving up."
