Aston Villa have made an £8m offer for Sampdoria right wing-back Christian Maggio, the Italian club confirmed.

The 26-year-old, who scored nine goals last season, has also attracted interest from within Italy amid calls for him to be included at Euro 2008.

Sampdoria general manager Beppe Marotta told Genoa's Secolo newspaper: "We've had an enquiry, around £8m, which is not yet tempting us."
