Wilshere signs new deal

Arsenal prospect Jack Wilshere has signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club.

The midfielder, who turned 17 on New Year's Day, has already made seven appearances for the first team this season and boss Arsene Wenger wasted no time in tying him to the club.

Wenger told the club website: "We look forward to Jack being an important part of our first team for years to come."

Wenger eyes recruits

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will only consider signing players of a "special class" during the transfer window.

Wenger is attempting to strengthen his squad and give the Gunners an injection of vitality as they bid to break into the Premier League top four.

Wenger told Arsenal's website: "I would like to think longer term. Even if they are not available for the Champions League, their class is more important."
