Rock staff leave bank
Most of the 1,300 staff made redundant by nationalised lender Northern Rock are leaving the business today.
The departures follow a consultation between management and trade union Unite. Including natural wastage, staff numbers will fall from 6,000 to 4,000.
The firm, which was nationalised after being crippled by the credit crunch last year, has also put two new offices it hoped to expand into up for sale.
