G8 backs 'Brown summit'
Gordon Brown's call for a summit to reform the failing global financial system has been backed by the G8.
Alongside the conference, expected to take place in New York this year, the group also pledged to restart stalled negotiations over a world trade deal.
The PM said the bank system shaped by the Bretton Woods conference 64 years ago - which set up the International Monetary Fund - is no longer suitable.
