Inflation at 16-year high
Inflation soared to a new record in September after gas and electricity price hikes, official figures reveal.
The Consumer Prices Index reached 5.2% last month, up from 4.7% in August. It is the highest reading since 1997 and a 16-year historical inflation peak.
Analysts believe inflation will begin to fall as oil prices ease. The Bank of England, which cut rates last week, is now focusing on curbing a recession.
